Ontario Soccer Grassroots Program Overview
Ontario Soccer’s grassroots platform aims to build the future of the sport by providing engaging, age-appropriate experiences for players aged U4–U12, aligned with the Long-Term Player Development (LTPD) model.
Key highlights include:
-
Player-Centered Development
Programs emphasize skill acquisition, enjoyment, and inclusion over competition, fostering a positive and supportive environment for all abilities. -
Structured Curriculum & Small-Sided Formats
Age-specific curriculum (Active Start, FUNdamentals, Learn to Train) is organized through station-based practices, promoting constant engagement and a love for the game. -
Grassroots Standards & 9v9 Format
Ontario Soccer adopts Canada Soccer’s grassroots standards — from Indoor 2025–26, U12 & U13 players will transition to 9v9 format with supporting field setup guides. -
Fast-Tracking Opportunities
Advanced players may be recommended to train/play up an age group through a structured, player-centred evaluation process that upholds physical, technical, and social readiness. -
Coaching Resources & Development
Coaches can access practice plans, webinars, video series, and the Grassroots Diploma to enhance their skills and deliver quality programming.
